Child prodigy, Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, initially rose to recognition at the young age of eleven, when she passed a computing A-Level and is one of the youngest to pass two GCSE qualifications in two different subjects while in primary school. Imafidon is widely known as the founder and CEO of Stemettes, founded in 2013, Stemettes is a social enterprise which supports and promotes women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) careers. In 2014, Stemettes was dubbed European Digital Impact Organisation of the Year by the Digital Leadership Institute.
Imafidon showed an exceptional intellectual ability at a young age, in 2003 she received a scholarship to study maths at John Hopkins University, at the age of 13. After beginning her study at Oxford University at the age of 15, she became the youngest individual to graduate with a master’s degree. Adding to her extraordinary achievements, she speaks six languages. Imafidon has been decorated with several awards, including BCS Young IT Professional of the Year (2013) and Red Magazine Woman of the Year award (2014). Imafidon was publically recognised for her services to young women in STEM careers in 2017, when she was made OBE.
Imafidon is an inspiration to women everywhere who are pursuing or looking to find a role in the STEM industries. A leading figure in the technology industry, Imafidon has been named as Forbes Top 50 Global Women in Tech and one of the BBC’s 100 inspirational and innovative women.
