Anthony Joshua

Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, born on October 15, 1989, in Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, developed an early interest in sports, excelling in football and athletics. Although he displayed natural athleticism, his boxing career began relatively late at 18 when introduced to the sport by his cousin. He quickly demonstrated significant talent, winning the 2009 and 2010 Haringey Box Cup and the senior ABA Championships in 2010 and 2011. Notably, he turned down a £50,000 offer to turn professional in his early career, prioritizing medal achievements over immediate financial gain. His amateur success culminated in representing England at the 2011 World Championships, where he secured a super-heavyweight silver medal after a notable victory against Olympic champion Roberto Cammarelle. He then represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics, winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division.

Joshua transitioned to professional boxing on October 5, 2013, under Matchroom Sport. His professional debut ended in a first-round technical knockout against Emanuele Leo. His early career was marked by a rapid series of knockout victories, leading to his first professional title, the WBC International heavyweight title, in 2014. He continued his ascent, winning the Commonwealth heavyweight title in 2015 and the British heavyweight title in a compelling grudge match against Dillian Whyte the same year. In April 2016, Joshua captured his first world title, the IBF heavyweight championship, by defeating Charles Martin. This marked the beginning of his reign as a dominant force in the heavyweight division.

During his career, Joshua unified world heavyweight titles on two separate occasions. His first unified reign began in 2017 when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in a highly acclaimed bout, adding the vacant WBA (Super) and IBO titles to his IBF belt. He successfully defended these titles against opponents like Carlos Takam and Joseph Parker (adding the WBO title) before experiencing a professional setback in 2019 against Andy Ruiz Jr. However, Joshua reclaimed his unified titles in a rematch against Ruiz Jr. in December 2019, demonstrating resilience and strategic adaptation. He further defended these titles against Kubrat Pulev in 2020. Though he later lost his unified titles to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and a rematch in 2022, Joshua has since continued to compete at a high level, securing victories against Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin, maintaining his elite status in the heavyweight boxing landscape.
