Anthony Dashawn Richardson Sr. was born on May 22, 2002, in Miami, Florida. He played quarterback for Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida, where he achieved significant milestones. During his high school career, he amassed 4,633 passing yards with 37 passing touchdowns and 1,633 rushing yards with 41 touchdowns. He later committed to playing college football at the University of Florida.
Richardson began his college career at Florida in 2020, appearing in four games and redshirting his freshman year. In 2021, he served as the backup quarterback and demonstrated his potential with a notable performance against the LSU Tigers, completing 10 of 19 passes for 167 yards with three touchdowns and adding a rushing touchdown. He became the Gators’ starting quarterback in 2022, leading them to a 29–26 upset victory over the seventh-ranked Utah Utes. That season, he passed for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and rushed for 654 yards and 9 touchdowns in 12 games. Following this season, Richardson announced his decision to enter the 2023 NFL draft.
Richardson was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He quickly became the Colts’ starting quarterback, making his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his rookie season, he recorded his first touchdown pass and rushing touchdown. After an injury-truncated 2023 season, he returned as the starter in 2024. Despite further injuries and a temporary benching, he demonstrated resilience by leading crucial game-winning drives for the Colts, including a 19-play, 80-yard touchdown drive in Week 13. He concluded the 2024 season with 1,814 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and 499 rushing yards with six touchdowns. In 2025, he entered a quarterback competition with Daniel Jones for the starting role.
