About

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1963, Mickey Asche moved to Louisiana in his teenage years. He followed his father’s profession, working as an aviation mechanic for over two decades. A significant turning point in his life occurred in 2005 when, shortly after losing his home to Hurricane Katrina, Asche sustained a knee injury that left him immobile for four months. During this recovery period, he began painting. He developed his skills, initially with watercolor, and later transitioned to oils. His experience growing up in Southern Louisiana influenced his artistic focus, leading him to depict the region’s diverse wildlife, bayous, marshes, and swamps.

Asche’s passion for art led him to leave his career in aviation to pursue painting full-time. He has since become recognized for his detailed wildlife and landscape paintings, particularly those capturing the essence of Louisiana. His work is featured in galleries in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. He has also undertaken public art projects, including murals for businesses and homes across Louisiana, and has been involved in community art initiatives. Asche is known for subtly incorporating his wife’s name, “Lauren,” into most of his pieces, adding a personal element for collectors.

His contributions to public art include a significant mural at the Mandeville Trailhead, completed during the summer. This mural depicts a bayou scene with marshlands, oaks, moss, and local wildlife, alongside musicians, paying homage to Mandeville’s cultural and musical history. This project was part of a series of community murals sponsored by Visit the Northshore, aimed at showcasing St. Tammany Parish’s towns and celebrating local artists. Asche’s involvement in such projects reflects his dedication to sharing Louisiana’s natural beauty and culture through his art.
