Mickey Asche is an artist who transitioned from a 20-year career as an aviation mechanic to a full-time painter, known for depicting Louisiana’s wildlife and landscapes. After developing his artistic skills in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Asche went on to establish himself as a celebrated painter, recognized for his detailed depictions of Louisiana’s diverse wildlife and landscapes. Prior to his artistic career, Asche dedicated over two decades to a specialized role as an aviation mechanic. A pivotal moment in his life occurred in 2005 when, following the loss of his home to Hurricane Katrina and subsequent injury, he began to paint, initially mastering watercolors before transitioning to oils.

Asche is also known for a unique signature, subtly incorporating his wife’s name, ‘Lauren,’ into most of his collector pieces. His significant contributions to public art include the recently completed, highly visible mural at the Mandeville Trailhead during the summer of 2024. This expansive work captures a vibrant bayou scene, rich with marshlands, ancient oaks draped in moss, local wildlife, and iconic musicians, serving as a profound homage to Mandeville’s rich cultural and musical heritage.
