Douglas Costa

Douglas Costa de Souza was born on September 14, 1990, in Sapucaia do Sul, Brazil. He began his youth football career at Grêmio at the age of 11, making his senior debut for the club at 18 in October 2008, where he also scored his first goal. He remained with Grêmio until January 2010, making 37 appearances and scoring 2 goals, before moving to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk for €6 million. At Shakhtar, Costa played a pivotal role in the team’s domestic dominance, securing multiple titles.

His tenure at Shakhtar Donetsk from 2010 to 2015 saw him make 141 appearances and score 29 goals. During this time, he won the Ukrainian Premier League five times (2009–10, 2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2013–14), the Ukrainian Cup three times (2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13), and the Ukrainian Super Cup three times (2010, 2012, 2013). In 2015, Costa transferred to Bayern Munich for a fee of €30 million, where he continued his success, winning two consecutive Bundesliga titles (2015–16, 2016–17) and a DFB-Pokal (2015–16). In his first season with Bayern, he contributed significantly with 7 goals and 14 assists across all competitions, showcasing his offensive capabilities.

Following his time in Germany, Costa joined Juventus on loan in 2017, with the move becoming permanent in 2018 for €40 million plus bonuses. With Juventus, he added three Serie A titles (2017–18, 2018–19, 2019–20), one Coppa Italia (2017–18), and one Supercoppa Italiana (2018) to his achievements. He subsequently had loan spells back at Bayern Munich (2020–21), where he won another Bundesliga title, and Grêmio (2021). After playing for LA Galaxy (2022–2023) and Fluminense (2024), where he won the 2024 Recopa Sudamericana, he signed with Sydney FC for the 2024–25 season.
