Born on August 8, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, Barbara Ruth Greenberg, now known as Barbara Delinsky, is an American novelist and non-fiction writer. She graduated from Newton High School in 1963, then pursued higher education, earning a B.A. in Psychology from Tufts University and an M.A. in Sociology from Boston College. Early in her career, she worked for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and later as a photographer and reporter for the Belmont Herald newspaper. This period, following the birth of her first child, honed her writing skills before she fully dedicated herself to novel writing.

Delinsky’s writing career began in 1980 after the birth of her twins, when she was inspired to write her first book, which was subsequently sold. Initially, she published under various pen names including Bonnie Drake and Billie Douglass, writing for Dell Publishing Company, Silhouette Books, and Harlequin Enterprises. She later consolidated her published works under the name Barbara Delinsky. To date, she has penned 19 New York Times bestselling novels, with more than 35 million copies of her books circulated and translated into 28 languages globally. Her novel, “A Woman’s Place,” was adapted into a Lifetime movie starring Lorraine Bracco, marking a significant milestone in her career.

In addition to her fiction work, Delinsky, a breast cancer survivor, released the non-fiction book “Uplift: Secrets from the Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors” in 2001. All author proceeds from this book are directed towards funding a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, demonstrating her commitment to philanthropy and advocating for breast cancer research. Her writing explores themes such as marriage, parenthood, sibling rivalry, and friendship, resonating with a wide readership due to her relatable portrayal of everyday people facing profound emotional crises. She continues to reside in Newton, Massachusetts, maintaining an active writing schedule.
