Primetime Emmy-winning actor Barry Pepper has appeared in many classic films during his 30-year screen career. He played Private Daniel Jackson in Saving Private Ryan, Dean Stanton in The Green Mile, Dan Morris in Seven Pounds, and also appeared in the likes of Maze Runner, Enemy of the State, True Grit, and 25th Hour. In 2011, he played Bobby Kennedy in Canadian-American historical drama series The Kennedys. The role won him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries. His role in the 2001 TV sports drama film 61* won him a Golden Globe nomination.
Pepper was born in British Columbia, Canada, in 1970. After an adventurous upbringing, which involved sailing with his family around the South Pacific islands for five years, he got into acting and first came to the attention of Canadian television audiences playing Mick Farleigh in teen drama series Madison. After a variety of roles, his big break came with Saving Private Ryan, the 1998 Spielberg epic that became the year’s highest-grossing film and landed 11 Oscars. The following year, he was acting alongside Tom Hanks again in The Green Mile, a drama based on Stephen King’s novel that grossed hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide.
Pepper hit the 2000s running, winning a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of record-breaking baseball star Roger Maris in 61*. It was, however, another 1960s figure that brought him his biggest award to date: Bobby Kennedy in The Kennedys. He continues to be a regular big-screen presence with roles in the likes of Running with the Devil and The Painted Bird.
