About

Ben Maller was born on April 29, 1975, in Irvine, California. His early life in Irvine included attending Irvine High School and later S.E.L.F., an alternative education program, where he managed to play high school football for University High School. Maller developed an early interest in sports journalism and broadcasting, which he continued at Saddleback College by covering Gauchos men’s basketball and football games for KSBR. His enthusiasm for sports broadcasting quickly led him to a position as an AM sports radio journalist, marking the beginning of his professional career in the field.

Maller’s broadcasting career saw him reporting for XTRA Sports 690am in San Diego in the mid-1990s and co-hosting “The Ben & Dave Show” on XTRA Sports 1150 in Los Angeles in the late-1990s, and “Dodger Talk” from 1996 to 2000. He joined Fox Sports Radio in August 2001, serving as an update anchor and weekend morning co-host. In 2003, Maller signed a contract with Fox Sports to be their “sports gossip guy,” a role where he provided daily sports rumors and notes. He is credited with contributing to FoxSports.com surpassing ESPN.com in unique visitors in February 2007. Maller became an international correspondent for “Radio Sport” in New Zealand in 2009 and contributed to “NBC SportsTalk” on NBC Sports Network from late 2011 to spring 2012. In 2014, he launched “The Ben Maller Show,” which broadcasts weekdays nationally from 2-6 AM ET/11 PM-3 AM PT.

Throughout his career, Maller has achieved several milestones, including leading a march at Staples Center with Clipper Darrell in 2010 to encourage LeBron James to join the Los Angeles Clippers. He also gained media attention for losing 200 pounds in 62 weeks through diet and exercise. Maller was re-hired by Fox Sports Radio in August 2009 after a layoff as part of Clear Channel Communications restructuring. His influence extends to menu items named after him in various restaurants across the United States, such as the “Maller Chicken Tender Sandwich” at Sportsbook Bar and Grill in Denver, Colorado. Maller is also credited as a writer for “Benny vs the Penny” (2020) and is the host of “The Fifth Hour with Ben Maller” podcast series since 2019.
