Formerly a radio announcer from Australia’s Gold Coast, Bilsy achieved national fame in his home country when he became one of the star’s of the first series of Lego Masters Australia, a game show broadcast on the national Nine Network. Teaming up with Kale, his enthusiasm for Lego endeared him to viewers and the pair came a close fourth. Bilsy, however, has become the breakout star of the series, being given his own radio show, aptly titled The Bilsy Show, on Radio Metro, which broadcasts across the Gold Coast.
Despite his new-found status, BIlsy likes to remain pretty enigmatic about his past. What is not in doubt, however, is his lifelong love of Lego. Having enjoyed building with it as a child, he began to take it much more seriously in his twenties — one of his creations was considered by Lego for an official release. When the auditions for Lego Masters were announced, he knew it was the show for him. Although he initially auditioned with a close friend, he ended up being partnered with Kale, a “brick artist” from Melbourne who had rediscovered a love of Lego after the premature birth of his child. Together, the pair became one of the show’s focal points with their ambitious creations and occasionally fractious relationship.
Today, however, Bilsy is happily flying solo, being interviewed Lego fansites and hosting The Bilsy Show, which he says avoids “boring politics news from random websites” and instead talks about and listens to whatever Bilsy and his audience fancy on any given night.
