With a social media audience of over 180,000 across various social media platforms, Brenna Spencer became a figurehead for the American right when a graduation photo of her wearing a ‘Women for Trump’ t-shirt, lifted to reveal a handgun concealed in her waistband, went viral. Unashamedly pro-Second Amendment and a vocal fan of Donald Trump, Spencer’s tagline is “I talk about guns” and she frequently posts pictures of herself posing with a firearm.
Hailing from Nashville, Spencer studied for a degree in Communications with Political Science at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. During her time there, she interned as a legal assistant before becoming a field director for Turning Point USA during 2017. Originally formed in 2012 to promote conservative values in American high schools, Turning Point USA has raised millions of dollars from influential donors to report on what it sees as discrimination against conservative-minded students, particularly by teaching staff. Since 2016, they have aligned themselves with the presidency of Donald Trump, and actively campaigned for his re-election in 2020. They have a strong, highly organised presence across America through established chapters and social media campaigns.
Spencer has high visibility, having been interviewed and featured on outlets such as Fox News and NRA TV. She also writes on her website about her passion for the Second Amendment and how she hopes to change the world through it, empowering women to protect themselves through gun ownership. She is particularly keen on spreading this message on college campuses. With American politics more centre-stage than ever, we will be hearing and seeing a lot more of her.
