United States Brian Robinson is a professional American football running back who transitioned from a highly touted college athlete to a key offensive player in the National Football League, overcoming significant personal challenges to achieve success.
Born on March 22, 1999, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Brian Kabir Robinson Jr. developed his football skills at Hillcrest High School, where he excelled as a running back. His performance, including rushing for 990 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, earned him second-team Class 6A All-State honors. A four-star recruit, Robinson committed to play college football at the University of Alabama, turning down offers from various prominent programs such as Auburn, Georgia, and Louisville. His early career at Alabama saw him contribute as a reserve behind notable players like Najee Harris and Josh Jacobs, securing two national championships in 2017 and 2020.
Robinson’s career at Alabama progressed steadily, with increased playing time and responsibilities each season. After several years as a secondary back, he emerged as Alabama’s featured running back in his fifth-year senior season in 2021. Despite facing injuries, he led the Southeastern Conference in carries and touchdowns, demonstrating his resilience and skill. A highlight of his college career was being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2021 Cotton Bowl Classic, where he set a school record with 204 rushing yards in a bowl game. He concluded his collegiate tenure with 1,343 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns in his final season, along with significant contributions in receiving.
His professional journey began when the Washington Commanders selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Shortly after, Robinson faced a life-threatening incident when he was shot during an armed robbery in August 2022. Remarkably, he returned to play within two months, making his NFL debut in Week 5. In his rookie year, he recorded his first career touchdown and a 100-yard rushing game, finishing with 797 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. His courage and perseverance earned him the 2022 Inspiration of the Year by Sports Illustrated and the Ed Block Courage Award. He later transitioned to the San Francisco 49ers in 2025, where he continues his career.
