Her career in acting began at a young age, with her first theatrical role at seven years old in the 1995 feature film “Babe,” where she played the Hoggetts’ spoiled granddaughter. This early start established her presence in the Australian entertainment industry. She subsequently expanded her filmography with roles in TV movies such as “When Good Ghouls Go Bad” (2001) as Dayna Stenson, “Mermaids” (2003) as Tessa, and “Little Oberon” (2005) as Natasha Green. Byrnes also appeared in the feature film “Swimming Upstream” (2003) as Diane Fingleton and the TV movie “Scorched” (2008) as Deanna Pearce.

Her television career is marked by several significant appearances, demonstrating her versatility across different genres and formats. Notably, she had recurring roles in early series like “G.P.” (1993; 1996) and “Heartbreak High” (1994). A major turning point in her career was her role as Charlotte Watsford in the popular Australian television series “H2O: Just Add Water” (2007–2008), where she appeared in 24 episodes. This role garnered her wider recognition and an AFI Award nomination in 2008 for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Drama. She was also a prominent cast member in “Escape of the Artful Dodger” (2001) as Hannah Schuler for 26 episodes and played Tina the Dancing Doll in “Toybox” (2010–2013) for 244 episodes, showcasing her commitment to long-running productions.
