Bruce Hopkins, known as ‘Hoppo’, has transitioned from Head Lifeguard of Bondi Beach to an international speaker on water safety, leadership, and teamwork. After gaining international recognition through the reality television series Bondi Rescue, Bruce Hopkins, known as ‘Hoppo’, went on to establish himself as a global authority in water safety and emergency response. Having appeared in sixteen seasons of the acclaimed show, which has aired in over 180 countries and earned six Logie Awards, Hopkins showcased his extensive expertise developed over a distinguished career with Waverley Council, where he has served as a professional lifeguard since 1991. Appointed Head Lifeguard of Bondi Beach in 2000, he has been involved in more resuscitations than any other lifeguard in the service and was formally recognized with the Australian Lifeguard of the Year award in 2006.
His ongoing commitment to water safety and emergency response is underscored by his continued presence on Bondi Rescue, which chronicles his daily operations through its latest seasons in 2024, and his persistent efforts through Surf Education International.
