Caleb Sequan Williams was born on November 18, 2001, in Washington, D.C. He attended Gonzaga College High School, where he quickly emerged as a standout football talent. As a sophomore in 2018, he led Gonzaga to a WCAC Championship, culminating in a game-winning Hail Mary pass. His impressive high school career included being named Washington Post All-Metropolitan 1st team and Washington, D.C. Gatorade Football Player of the Year, passing for 2,624 yards with 26 touchdowns and rushing for 394 yards with 10 touchdowns. The following year, he continued to excel, earning another Washington Post All-Metropolitan 1st team selection with 1,770 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, 838 rushing yards, and 18 rushing touchdowns. His senior season in 2020 was canceled due to COVID-19, but he remained a top-rated quarterback prospect.
Williams began his college football career at the University of Oklahoma in 2021. He initially served as a backup before taking over as the starting quarterback midway through the season’s sixth game against the Texas Longhorns. In his debut as a starter, he led Oklahoma to a dramatic 55–48 comeback victory, finishing with 212 passing yards, two touchdowns, 88 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown. He concluded his freshman year with 21 passing touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns, and four interceptions across seven games.
In 2022, Williams transferred to the University of Southern California (USC), reuniting with head coach Lincoln Riley. He was named the Trojans’ starter and team captain, going on to have a remarkable season that earned him the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, and AP College Football Player of the Year. He set single-season school records at USC for passing yards and touchdowns, leading the NCAA with 42 passing touchdowns. Following the 2023 season, where he contributed significantly with 3,333 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns, he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams was selected first overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2024 NFL Draft, where he continued to set franchise rookie passing records, including most completions, yards, and touchdowns in a single season. His accomplishments include a streak of 354 consecutive pass attempts without an interception, an NFL record for a rookie.
