Callie Thorne

Callie Thorne, an American actress of Armenian descent, was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Her early education included studies in theater and dramatic literature at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, followed by acting training at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City. Thorne commenced her film career as the female lead in the romantic comedy “Ed’s Next Move” (1996), where she played Lee, a bohemian musician. This film premiered at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival and earned critical acclaim for its realism. Her first significant television role came as Detective Laura Ballard in the police procedural series “Homicide: Life on the Street,” joining the cast for its sixth season in 1997. She continued this role in the spin-off film “Homicide: The Movie” (2000).

Throughout the 2000s, Thorne established a presence in television with recurring roles in several popular series. She portrayed Elena McNulty, the ex-wife of a police detective, in the crime drama “The Wire” (2002-2008), a character who evolved from antagonism to reconciliation with her former spouse. Concurrently, she appeared as defense attorney Nikki Staines in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” starting in 2003, a role that saw her character depicted as a sexual assault victim in a later season.
