Calvin Ross

Calvin Ross has had a significant career in law enforcement, serving as Chief of Police for the City of Miami and Florida A&M University, and as Florida’s Secretary of Juvenile Justice. After a distinguished 23-year career with the Miami police department, Calvin Ross was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Miami in 1991, a pivotal leadership position he held until 1994. During his tenure, Ross became known for his strong advocacy of community policing and his dedicated focus on improving the safety and well-being of the communities he served across Miami. He began his extensive career as a patrolman, rising through the ranks after earning his degree in criminal justice from Biscayne College in Miami.

He served an additional 11 years as the police chief at Florida A&M University, holding the position from 2001 until his retirement in 2012. This role allowed him to apply his decades of public safety experience to a university environment, ensuring the security and well-being of the campus community for over a decade. Ross concluded his distinguished 40-year career in law enforcement upon his retirement in 2012.
