Cameron Waters was born on August 3, 1994, in Mildura, Victoria, and began his racing career in go-karts in 2001. He quickly demonstrated his talent, claiming multiple national and state championships before transitioning to open-wheel racing in 2009 with Formula Vee. In 2010, Waters joined the Australian Formula Ford Championship, where he finished sixth as the top rookie. The following year, he secured the outright title with seven race wins. His early career also included a notable win in the inaugural Shannons Supercar Showdown TV series in 2011, which earned him a spot in the Bathurst 1000 at the age of 17, making him the youngest driver to compete in the event. Although that debut ended in an accident, it marked the beginning of his rise in Australian motorsport. He subsequently debuted in the Dunlop Super2 Series in 2011, continuing his career progression.
By 2014, Waters joined Tickford Racing, then known as Ford Performance Racing, securing a runner-up finish in the Dunlop Series. His consistent performance led to him winning the 2015 V8 Supercars Dunlop Series. This success propelled him into the main game of the Supercars Championship full-time in 2016 with Prodrive Racing Australia (later Tickford Racing). A significant milestone came in 2017 with his first Supercars victory alongside Richie Stanaway at Sandown. Waters proved to be a consistent front-runner, finishing as Supercars runner-up in both 2020 and 2022, and achieving three Bathurst podium finishes. He continued to collect race wins, with three in 2021, three in 2023, and four wins in 2024, also earning another Pole Champion Award in 2024, placing fourth overall.
Waters expanded his racing endeavors by making his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut in March 2024 with ThorSport Racing, followed by his NASCAR Cup Series debut in May 2024 with RFK Racing at Sonoma Raceway. In June 2025, he was announced to compete in the inaugural Lime Rock Craftsman Truck Series race. Outside of circuit racing, Waters also competes in sprint car racing, where he has achieved success, including winning the 2018 Modified Production Australian Speedway Title. He also has interests in car restoration and snow sport.
