Sydney Romero

Sydney Joy Romero was born on March 8, 1997, in San Diego, California. She demonstrated early athletic promise, attending Vista Murrieta High School where she earned three-time First-Team All-Southwestern League honors and was named a 2014 Underclass All-American. Her collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma, spanning from 2016 to 2019, was marked by significant achievements. Romero played a pivotal role in the Oklahoma Sooners softball team’s success, contributing to four consecutive Women’s College World Series appearances and securing national championships in 2016 and 2017. Her individual performance was consistently strong, culminating in numerous accolades including NFCA First Team All-American selections in 2018 and 2019, and being named the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2019. She holds program records for at-bats and doubles, and ranks highly in hits, extra-base hits, and RBIs, establishing herself as a foundational player for the Sooners.

Following her decorated collegiate career, Romero transitioned to professional softball. In 2019, she was the third overall pick in the NPF Draft by the USSSA Pride, where she quickly earned recognition as Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. She continued her professional journey in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, joining the Talons in 2025. In the inaugural AUSL season, she played a key role in the Talons’ championship victory, hitting the game-winning home run in the championship series. Beyond playing, Romero also embarked on a coaching career. She served as a student assistant for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2020 to 2022, an assistant coach for the Duke Blue Devils in 2023, and currently holds an assistant coach position for the Oregon Ducks softball program, utilizing her extensive playing experience to mentor new generations of athletes.

Throughout her career, Romero has also represented Mexico on the international stage, participating in events such as the 2015 Junior Women’s World Championship where she earned a gold medal, and later at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is known for her consistent offensive production and defensive skills as a third baseman. Her commitment to both playing and coaching demonstrates a comprehensive engagement with softball, aiming to develop both her own athletic capabilities and the skills of aspiring players.
