Carl Dukes began his extensive career in sports broadcasting at WOAI radio in San Antonio, Texas. He later moved to KTRH in Houston in 1998, where he served as a host and sports anchor for various morning and afternoon radio programs. During his time in Houston, from 2000 to 2008, Dukes also took on roles as a play-by-play or color analyst for the University of Houston Cougar basketball program, including national broadcasts on CSTV. His regional coverage extended to college basketball and football games within the Southland, Big 12, and Conference USA conferences, as well as the SEC. Additionally, he hosted pre and post-game shows for professional sports teams, the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets, contributing significantly to sports coverage in the region.
In 2012, Carl Dukes relocated to Atlanta to help launch “The Game” on CBS Radio, 92.9, which subsequently became the top-rated sports show in its market. His career progression includes hosting “Put’em Up with Carl Dukes” on ESPN Radio 97.5 from 2008 to 2012. Dukes has maintained a strong presence in national television, making regular appearances on programs such as ESPN’s “The Hotlist & 1st and 10,” ESPN News, SportsCenter, NBC’s “Sports Sunday,” and ABC’s “Extra Points.” Currently, he hosts weekends on Infinity Sports Network and can be heard on 750 The Game on Sunday mornings. He also calls G-League games for the Atlanta Hawks on NBA TV and makes guest appearances on WXIA-TV’s “Sports Extra” show.
Throughout his career, Carl Dukes has received recognition for his work, including AP’s Best Breaking Sports Story Award. He has been named Best Sports Talk Show Host in both Houston and Atlanta by Creative Loafing and was listed among Radio Ink’s Top 15 Local Sports Talkers. Talkers magazine also recognized him as one of the Most Important Sports Talk Hosts since 2015.
