Carlos Eduardo Espina is a passionate Uruguayan-born American activist renowned for his advocacy for immigrant rights. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, to a Uruguayan father and a Mexican mother, Espina migrated to Texas with his family. He pursued political science at Vassar College, graduating in 2020, and is currently a law student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he continues to champion social justice and immigrant issues.
Since his teenage years, Espina has actively worked to support socially disadvantaged communities. In 2017, he founded “Football for the Future,” an NGO aimed at using sports as a tool for social change. In 2019, he established the Detained Refugee Solidarity Fund, focusing on providing assistance to migrants and refugees held in ICE detention centers, highlighting his commitment to advocating for those facing systemic challenges.
In addition to his activism, Espina has gained considerable recognition as a content creator on social media, amassing millions of followers on TikTok. Through his platforms, he raises awareness about immigrant rights, shares personal stories, and engages in discussions on pressing social issues, inspiring a younger audience to take action.
Espina’s impact has caught the attention of prominent political figures. In June 2024, he was summoned by Vice President Kamala Harris and later by President Joe Biden. On August 21, 2024, he delivered a compelling speech at the Democratic National Convention, further solidifying his role as a leading voice in the movement for immigrant rights. In recognition of his contributions, he received the “Inspiring Creator” award at the 2024 Premios Juventud.
