The high-octane Carlos Sainz Vázquez de Castro, better known in sporting circles as Carlos Sainz Jr., is a professional racing driver competing in Formula 1 for Scuderia Ferrari. He is the son of Carlos Sainz Sr., the double World Rally Champion. He secured his first career F1 win at the British Grand Prix in 2022.
Bron and raised in Madrid to the double World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz Sr., Sainz Jr. began go-karting at a young age, and in 2008, when he was 14-years-old, he won the Asia-Pacific KF3 title. He then began to move up the racing classes, driving for Formula BMW, Formula 3, and GP3. After competing in Formula Renault 3.5, he joined Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2015 and made his debut F1 appearance at the Australian Grand Prix. He joined Renault in 2017 partnering Nico Hülkenberg. For the 2019 season he moved to McLaren replacing Fernando Alonso. He then joined Scuderia Ferrari on a two-year contract at the start of the 2021 season, and the following year he claimed his maiden F1 win at the British Grand Prix in July.
