Cas Anvar

Cas Anvar was born on March 15, 1966, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Iranian parents. He was raised in Montreal, Quebec, and graduated from Beaconsfield High School in 1983. Anvar initially pursued studies in psychology and sciences at McGill University before shifting his focus to acting. He subsequently graduated from the National Theatre School in 1989. His career began in theater, where he has played numerous leading roles in Shakespearean productions. Anvar was also the founder and producing artistic director of Montreal’s Repercussion Theatre, a Shakespeare-in-the-Park touring company that has performed across Montreal and throughout North America since 1988.

Anvar’s on-screen career commenced in 1992 with his debut in ‘Urban Angel’. He later gained recognition for his role as Kambiz Foroohar in the 2003 film ‘Shattered Glass’, which was nominated for four Spirit Awards and a Golden Globe. His filmography also includes appearances in major productions such as Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Terminal’ alongside Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Stanley Tucci, ‘Source Code’ with Jake Gyllenhaal, ‘The Factory’ starring John Cusack, and the SAG Award-winning film ‘Argo’. He has also taken on diverse roles in television, guest-starring in series like ’24’, ‘Castle’, ‘Leverage’, ‘NCIS: LA’, ‘In Plain Sight’, and headlining SyFy’s 2015 series ‘Olympus’. Additionally, Anvar co-hosted PBS’s Christmas Special in 2015. He is trilingual, fluent in English, French, and Farsi, which he attributes to his varied cultural background.

His career saw a significant rise with his role as Alex Kamal in the science fiction series ‘The Expanse’, which premiered in December 2015 on SyFy and later moved to Amazon Prime Video, running for five seasons until 2021. Following this, he appeared opposite Viola Davis in the final season of ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ in 2020. Anvar has continued to expand his acting portfolio with recent and upcoming projects, including the 2024 film ‘Doin’ It’, and the 2025 films ‘Viper’ and ‘Weight of Darkness’. He also starred in Veena Sud’s ‘The Lie’ (2018) and the international spy thriller ‘The Operative’ (2019) with Diane Kruger and Martin Freeman.
