Chad Greenway, born on January 12, 1983, in Mount Vernon, South Dakota, established himself as a prominent figure in Football through his collegiate and professional careers. At Mount Vernon High School, he was a three-time South Dakota All-state performer, earning first-team honors as a junior and senior. He excelled as a quarterback, free safety, and return specialist, leading his team to two consecutive state titles. After a successful high school career where he amassed 3,118 rushing yards, 2,572 passing yards, 407 tackles, and 23 interceptions, Greenway channeled his work ethic, developed on his family’s hog farm, into a distinguished college career at the University of Iowa, playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes football team.
At the University of Iowa from 2002 to 2005, Greenway earned recognition for his talent and dedication. After redshirting his freshman year and overcoming a knee injury in 2002, he became a starting outside linebacker in 2003, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors. In 2004 and 2005, he was a first-team All-Big Ten selection, and in 2004, he was named a first-team All-American by Pro Football Weekly. He was also selected as Iowa’s Special Teams Player of the Year and recognized for his leadership. These achievements laid the groundwork for his entry into professional football.
Greenway was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round as the 17th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 11-year professional career (2006-2016) with the Vikings, becoming a respected leader on and off the field. Despite missing his rookie season due to an ACL injury, he quickly became a key defensive player, recording over 1,100 combined tackles, 18 sacks, and 11 interceptions throughout his career. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2011, 2012) and was recognized with the “Whizzer” White NFL Man of the Year Award in 2015 for his community work. After retiring in 2017, Greenway has remained active through his Lead the Way Foundation and business ventures.
