He played college football for Santa Monica College and Oregon State University before being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2001 NFL draft. During his 10 seasons with the Bengals, from 2001 to 2010, Johnson established himself as one of the league’s most productive wide receivers, holding numerous franchise receiving records. He was named to six Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams, leading the AFC in receiving yards for four consecutive seasons and the NFL overall in 2006. After his tenure with the Bengals, Johnson played for the New England Patriots in 2011, where he participated in Super Bowl XLVI. He then had a brief period with the Miami Dolphins during the 2012 preseason. Beyond the NFL, Johnson expanded his career to include the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes from 2014 to 2015 and a single game in Mexico’s Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional in 2017. Throughout his career, Johnson was recognized for his on-field achievements and his engaging personality, which led to significant media visibility and numerous other ventures.
