Scottish alpine ski racer Charlie Guest made history in 2019 when she became the first British skier to win a race in the Alpine European Cup. She has since won two further races, and her current career-best finish in the notoriously tough competition is 25th in the slalom competition. She is also a veteran of two Olympics Games, having competed at both the 2018 and 2022 Winter Games. She is popular on social media, with nearly 10,000 followers on Instagram.
Born in Edinburgh on the penultimate day of 1993, Guest began skiing in the Scottish Highlands when she was just three years old. She proved to be a natural, and by the time she turned 12, she had joined the British Ski Academy in France. Her penchant for breaking records began early when, aged 14, she became the youngest ever British girl to win an international children’s race. She won her first British title in 2013 and would win another five in the next five years. In late 2014, Guest was training in Sweden when she hit a boulder, breaking four vertebrae in her spine. Such an accident could have ended her career or worse, but thankfully, she was wearing a back protector, and despite the severity of her injury, she was able to recover, competing in a World Cup race less than three months after the accident.
Guest’s greatest victory to date came in March 2019 when she won a World Cup race in Italy — the first British skier to ever win a race in the then-88-year-old competition. She repeated this success in January 2020 and March 2021.
