Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase is an American comedian, actor, and writer, known for his foundational role in Saturday Night Live and leading parts in iconic comedy films. After establishing himself as a foundational comedic talent, Chevy Chase quickly rose to prominence as an original cast member and writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live from its debut in 1975 until 1976. During his pivotal tenure, Chase became celebrated for his signature ‘Weekend Update’ segment, iconic physical comedy, and acclaimed portrayal of President Gerald Ford. His groundbreaking work on SNL earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards in 1976.

Prior to his breakthrough, Chase co-founded the Channel One comedy ensemble in 1967 and contributed as a writer and cast member to The National Lampoon Radio Hour in 1973. He made his film debut in The Groove Tube in 1974, leading to his starring role in the hit film Foul Play in 1978. Chase continued his prolific film career throughout the 1980s, starring as Ty Webb in the beloved classic Caddyshack (1980) and launching the enduring National Lampoon’s Vacation series as Clark Griswold, which began in 1983. He also delivered a memorable performance as Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher in the highly successful Fletch films, starting in 1985.

Demonstrating his lasting legacy, Chase reprised his iconic role as Clark Griswold in the 2015 film Vacation. More recently, he starred in the 2019 comedy The Last Laugh and is slated to appear in the 2024 film The Christmas Letter, adding to a robust career spanning over 112 projects.
