Nguyễn Thùy Chi, known professionally as Chi Pu, was born on June 14, 1993, in Hanoi, Vietnam. Her early life included academic success and musical pursuits, winning first prize in the Hanoi Electronic Keyboard Festival in 2003. Her public career began in 2009 when she placed in the top 20 of Miss Teen Vietnam. This exposure led to her entry into the entertainment industry, where she quickly gained recognition as a teen idol. Chi Pu’s versatile career has seen her undertake roles as an actress, singer, writer, and producer, marking her as a multifaceted talent.
Chi Pu’s acting career commenced in 2013 with lead roles in television dramas like “Waterdrop” and “Happy Dream,” both broadcast on Vietnam National Television. The same year, she joined the popular Vietnamese television series “5S Online.” She produced and starred in her first short film, “Under One Sky,” which was critically acclaimed and received a Golden Kite Award the following year. Her filmography includes roles in movies such as “Hương Ga” (Rise) in 2014, “Yêu” (Love) in 2015, and “Saigon Bodyguards” in 2016. In 2015, she was honored as the Upcoming Female Actress at the ELLE Style Awards. She ventured into music, releasing songs and an EP titled “Love Story” in 2017. Her influence extended to becoming the first Vietnamese artist to have a self-titled mobile game, Chi Pu – VSao, released in 2015. She also gained significant social media presence, with the most followers among Vietnamese actresses on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as noted by Socialbaker.
Demonstrating continued career progression, Chi Pu participated in the fourth season of the Chinese reality show “Sisters Who Make Waves” in 2023, where she achieved the sixth-highest score and secured a position in an 11-member girl group set to be active in the Chinese entertainment industry. This international exposure further solidified her status. Her acting credits continued with films like “Muoi: The Curse Returns” (2022) and “Daydreamers” (2023). Beyond her entertainment work, Chi Pu is also recognized for her activism, advocating for causes such as flood victim support and canine protection.
