Chris Zylka, born Christopher Michael Settlemire on May 9, 1985, in Ohio, adopted his mother’s maiden name for his acting career. After graduating from Howland High School in 2003, he studied art at the University of Toledo for two years before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting. His early career involved guest appearances on television shows such as “90210” (2008), “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Hannah Montana,” “Cougar Town,” and “Zeke and Luther.” Zylka gained a recurring role as Joey Donner in “10 Things I Hate About You” from 2009 to 2010. He also began appearing in films like “My Super Psycho Sweet 16” (2009) and “Kaboom” (2010), which premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
Zylka continued to expand his filmography with roles in “Shark Night” (2011), “Piranha 3DD” (2012), and as Flash Thompson in “The Amazing Spider-Man” (2012). His television career progressed with a main part as Jake Armstrong in The CW’s “The Secret Circle” (2011-2012). A significant role came as Tom Garvey in the HBO series “The Leftovers,” which he held from 2014 to 2017 across 28 episodes. During this period, he also appeared in films such as “Dixieland” (2015) and “Novitiate” (2017), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Beyond acting, Zylka has engaged in modeling, including an advertising campaign for Abercrombie & Fitch shot by Bruce Weber. He has been featured on the covers of “Wonderland,” “Glamoholic,” and “Bello” magazines. In 2018, he directed Paris Hilton’s music video for “I Need You” and launched his first art exhibition, “Why Use A Name,” at Pikes Hotel in Ibiza, Spain.
