Sir Christopher Nolan CBE has become a leading filmmaker of the 21st century, known for his Hollywood blockbusters with structurally complex storytelling. His work combines critical acclaim with significant commercial success, exploring profound themes across diverse genres. After directing his debut feature film Following in 1998, Sir Christopher Nolan CBE quickly garnered international film festival recognition, setting the stage for a prolific career defined by structurally complex storytelling and significant commercial success. Prior to his feature debut, Nolan honed his craft through roles as a script reader, camera operator, and director for corporate films, also directing the short film Doodlebug in 1997.

Nolan produced the Superman movie Man of Steel (2013) before directing, writing, and producing the science-fiction epic Interstellar (2014), which garnered strong box-office results and positive reviews. His war epic Dunkirk (2017) earned him his first Best Director nomination at the Academy Awards and won three Oscars. Nolan was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2019, followed by the release of the complex sci-fi espionage thriller Tenet in 2020. Most recently, Nolan’s biographical drama Oppenheimer (2023) became a cultural phenomenon, grossing nearly one billion dollars and sweeping the 2023/2024 award season, earning him his first Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture.

For his monumental contributions to film, he was knighted by King Charles III in March 2024. Also in 2024, Nolan received the prestigious British Film Institute Fellowship and an Honorary César award. He was elected President of the Directors Guild of America for 2025, with his upcoming film The Odyssey scheduled for release in 2026.
