The fabulous award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan is a director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for The Dark Knight Trilogy, Dunkirk, and Inception. In 2019 he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his services to film.
Born in and raised in London as well as Illinois, Nolan developed an interest in film from a young age. He attended the University College London to study English Literature, and while there continued to make short films. After graduating he worked on corporate videos and industrial films continuing to learn his craft. He made his feature film debut, Following, in 1998, but it was his second movie, Memento, released in 2000, which gained him international recognition and acclaim with an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Following this he made Insomnia in 2002, and then hit the big time with his Batman movies, The Dark Night trilogy, produced between 2005 and 2012. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises are widely regarded as the best superhero movies ever made, and went on to win two Oscars.
Between the Batman movies Nolan made The Prestige in 2006, and Inception in 2010, which became a critical and commercial success upon its release and gained eight Oscar nominations, winning four. He then made Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet, all of which picked up Oscars. His latest film, Oppenheimer, is due for release in 2023.
