Clara Tauson was born on December 21, 2002, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her talent for tennis was recognized at age six, leading her to attend a specialized school by age ten to focus on her sport. Tauson’s early career saw her break records, becoming the youngest winner of the Danish tennis championship at 13, surpassing Caroline Wozniacki’s previous record of 14. She quickly progressed through the junior ranks, debuting on the ITF Junior Circuit in 2016 and winning her first junior singles title that year. Her dedication to tennis was financially supported by her family until 2017 when she transitioned into playing professional tournaments. By 2019, Tauson became a full-time professional, focusing primarily on singles but also participating in doubles and Fed Cup competitions.
Her junior career culminated in significant achievements, including winning the 2019 Australian Open girls’ singles event, making her the first Danish girl to claim this title. The following week, she also became the first Dane to top the girls’ singles world ranking. In April 2019, Tauson made her WTA Tour debut, receiving a wildcard into the main draw of a tournament. Her major debut occurred at the 2020 French Open, where she qualified for the main draw and defeated world No. 25 Jennifer Brady before losing in the second round. The year 2021 marked a breakthrough as she secured her first two WTA Tour singles titles at the Lyon Open and Luxembourg Open, which propelled her into the WTA top 50. Her performance that year also included winning the Chicago Challenger, defeating Emma Raducanu in the final. Tauson also reached the third round of the Australian Open in 2022, defeating
sixth seed Anett Kontaveit for her first top-ten win. She also reached the finals of the Dubai Championships in 2025, beating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka during her run.
Despite facing injuries in 2022 and 2023 that affected her tournament participation, Tauson has consistently shown resilience and capability on the court. She has continued to climb the rankings, achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 12 in September 2025. Tauson has represented Denmark in the Billie Jean King Cup, contributing to the team’s best result since 1995 by securing promotion to the finals qualifiers among the top 20 nations in the world in 2024. Her career progression has garnered significant attention.
