Collin Morikawa was born on February 6, 1997, in Los Angeles, California. He is of Chinese-Japanese descent and graduated from La Cañada High School before attending the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in business administration in 2019. During his collegiate golf career from 2015 to 2019, Morikawa secured five wins, including the 2019 Pac-12 Conference Championship. He also demonstrated significant amateur success, winning events such as the Western Junior, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, Sunnehanna Amateur, and Northeast Amateur. Morikawa was part of the winning Arnold Palmer Cup teams in 2017 and 2018, and the winning Walker Cup team in 2017. He held the top rank in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for three weeks in May 2018.
