Jon Rahm Rodríguez was born on November 10, 1994, in Barrika, Spain. Rahm was born with a clubfoot, which required surgery and resulted in his right leg being shorter than his left, influencing his golf swing. His interest in golf was sparked by the 1997 Ryder Cup. Originally engaging in various sports, he focused on golf at age 13, receiving coaching from PGA of Spain professional Eduardo Celles. He demonstrated an intense work ethic and exceptional memory for course details from an early age.
Rahm attended Arizona State University on a golf scholarship, joining in Fall 2012. He initially faced challenges with English and controlling emotions on the course, but his performance at the Pac-12 Preview solidified his scholarship. He secured his first individual collegiate title at the Bill Cullum Invitational and was named the 2013 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Rahm went on to win 11 collegiate titles, second only to Phil Mickelson’s 16 at ASU. He achieved the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a record 60 weeks and became the first two-time winner of the Ben Hogan Award as the top collegiate golfer. He turned professional in 2016 after being the low amateur at the U.S. Open.
Rahm’s professional career quickly gained momentum. He secured his PGA Tour card for the 2016-17 season by finishing tied-third at the Quicken Loans National and tied-second at the RBC Canadian Open. His first PGA Tour victory came at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open. He continued to collect victories on both the PGA Tour and European Tour, including multiple Irish Open and DP World Tour Championship titles. His career progression saw him reach world number one in July 2020 after winning the Memorial Tournament. Rahm secured his first major title at the 2021 U.S. Open and his second at the 2023 Masters Tournament. In December 2023, Rahm transitioned to LIV Golf, creating the Legion XIII team and winning his first LIV Golf event in July 2024.
