About

Courtney Reed was born on August 10, 1984, in Elgin, Illinois. Her performing career began at six years old in a Children’s Theatre of Elgin production of Cinderella. Later, a leading role in a community production of Annie solidified her decision to pursue acting professionally. She further honed her craft at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts, where she majored in Musical Theatre.

Reed’s Broadway career started as a replacement understudy for Lisa and Ali in “Mamma Mia!”. She then joined the final Broadway cast of “In The Heights” as an understudy and replacement for Vanessa, Nina, and Carla. A significant turning point in her career came in 2011 when she originated the role of Princess Jasmine in the musical “Aladdin” at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle. She continued in this role through its Toronto tryout and its Broadway debut at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, concluding her run on January 11, 2018. She reprised the role for a limited engagement in the North American Tour and the West End production’s closing cast in 2019, returning to Broadway as Princess Jasmine from October 16 to October 27, 2019.

In September 2021, Reed was cast as Satine in the North American touring cast of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” and later assumed the role on Broadway on August 1, 2023. Her television credits include appearances in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2012), “White Collar” (2013), “The Affair” (2015), “Search Party” (2016), and “Liza on Demand” (2019). She has also appeared in films such as “Crime Fiction” (2007), “A New York Love Story” (2015), and “Endings, Beginnings” (2019). Reed is also the founder of Gagged Chokers, a company specializing in themed chokers.
