Dacre Montgomery

Dacre Montgomery-Harvey was born on November 22, 1994, in Perth, Western Australia. His mother is Australian-Canadian and his father is from New Zealand. Both parents worked in the film industry, exposing Montgomery to film sets from a young age and fostering an early interest in acting. He began performing on screen and in theater at age nine. Despite facing challenges during his schooling, including being bullied and failing high school drama exams, Montgomery pursued his passion for acting, eventually graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University in 2015.

Montgomery’s professional career commenced with roles in short films like “Betrand the Terrible” (2010) and “Godot’s Clinic” (2015), alongside a TV pilot “Family Tree” (2011) and the music video for Make Them Suffer’s “Old Souls” (2015). A significant turning point arrived in 2017 with his role as Jason Scott / Red Ranger in the superhero film “Power Rangers.” That same year, he joined the cast of the Netflix series “Stranger Things” as Billy Hargrove. His portrayal of the complex character of Billy Hargrove earned him critical acclaim, receiving an MTV Movie & TV Award nomination and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. He reprised the role in seasons three and four of “Stranger Things.”

Following his success on “Stranger Things,” Montgomery continued to expand his filmography with various projects. He appeared in the Christmas horror film “Better Watch Out” (2017) and the romantic comedy “The Broken Hearts Gallery” (2020). In 2022, he portrayed Steve Binder in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis.” After a brief hiatus, Montgomery returned to acting with films such as “Went Up the Hill” (2024), where he also served as an executive producer, and upcoming projects “What We Hide” (2025) and “Dead Man’s Wire” (2025). In addition to his acting work, Montgomery released his own podcast, “DKMH,” in 2019, which features his poetry. He has openly discussed his experiences with OCD, noting its influence on his creative process.
