Danny Pudi

Daniel Mark Pudi was born on March 10, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois. His mother, Teresa, was from Poland, and his father, Abraham, was from India. Pudi grew up speaking Polish with his mother and grandmother. He attended Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, Illinois, and later studied at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating with a degree in communication and theatre in 2001. At Marquette, he was the inaugural recipient of the Chris Farley Scholarship, which also provided an opportunity to perform at an improv comedy event. Following his university education, Pudi further honed his skills at The Second City Conservatory Program in Chicago and joined ‘Stir Friday Night!’, an Asian American sketch comedy ensemble, indicating an early dedication to comedic performance.

Pudi relocated to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue television and film opportunities. Before gaining widespread recognition, he appeared in various television advertisements for brands such as Snickers, Verizon, McDonald’s, T-Mobile, and Far Cry 4. His early acting credits include guest spots on “ER”, “Gilmore Girls”, and “The West Wing”. A significant turning point in his career came with his casting as Abed Nadir in the NBC sitcom ‘Community’, which ran from 2009 to 2015. His performance in this role earned him three nominations for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and one nomination for the TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy.

Beyond ‘Community’, Pudi has a diverse filmography across film and television. He has taken on voice roles, notably as Huey Duck in the ‘DuckTales’ reboot from 2017 to 2021, and as Bumblebee in ‘Transformers: Earthspark’ (2022-present). He also starred as Brad Bakshi in the Apple TV+ comedy series ‘Mythic Quest’ (2020–2025) and appeared in the 2022 film ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ alongside ‘Community’ co-star Alison Brie. In 2024, Pudi took on the recurring role of The Mechanist in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’. Pudi is also a director and writer, with his short film ‘Running’, which he wrote, released in 2022, exploring themes of personal identity and cultural background. He has been married to Bridget Showalter Pudi since 2004 and they have two children.
