Dan Howell and Phil Lester, known as Dan and Phil, established a significant presence in online content creation, initiating their collaborative career in 2009. Their joint gaming channel, DanAndPhilGAMES, launched in September 2014, rapidly garnered over one million subscribers by March 2015 and eventually surpassed 3.1 million subscribers. They further expanded their reach into broadcasting in January 2013, presenting the Sunday night entertainment and request show for BBC Radio 1. They later transitioned to hosting ‘The Internet Takeover’ on Monday nights, a show featuring other video bloggers, which ran until April 2016.

The book achieved critical and commercial success, topping the Sunday Times Bestsellers list and becoming a #1 New York Times Bestseller in the young adult hardcover category by November 2015. Following its success, they launched their theatrical stage show, The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire (TATINOF), in March 2015. The tour commenced in the UK from October to November 2015, followed by engagements across the US, Toronto, and Australia through August 2016, marking the largest tour ever undertaken by YouTube creators. In October 2016, The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire was released as a YouTube Red Original film, accompanied by the documentary Dan and Phil’s Story of TATINOF.

Further expanding their content scope, the DanAndPhilGAMES channel rebranded to ‘Dan and Phil’ in October 2025, signifying an evolution beyond solely gaming content.
