Dan Avidan established his musical career as the lead singer and lyricist for the indie rock band The Northern Hues, releasing their self-titled EP on December 14, 2004, and a live track from July 16, 2005. Following this, Avidan co-founded the Brooklyn-based alternative rock duo Skyhill in 2006 with Peter Lennox, releasing their acclaimed debut album ‘Run With the Hunted’ on May 16, 2007. His career took a significant turn in 2009 when he formed the musical comedy duo Ninja Sex Party with Brian Wecht. Performing as ‘Danny Sexbang,’ Avidan’s comedic persona, alongside Wecht’s ‘Ninja Brian,’ resonated with audiences, leading to the release of multiple Billboard-charting albums, including ‘NSFW’ (2011), ‘Strawberries and Cream’ (2013), and ‘Attitude City’ (2015).
Building on this success, Avidan expanded his digital presence in 2013 by joining the popular YouTube channel Game Grumps as a co-host with Arin Hanson. This collaboration revitalized the show, significantly broadening its audience and contributing to its professional growth. The same year, he collaborated with Wecht and Hanson to form the rap-based comedy music trio Starbomb, releasing their self-titled, Billboard-charting album in 2013, followed by ‘Player Select’ in 2014. Continuing his musical output, Skyhill reunited for the standalone single ‘Firefly’ in 2015.
In late 2021, Avidan announced the formation of Shadow Academy, a new rock duo with Jim Roach, releasing their debut album on April 22, 2022. He continues to record with Skyhill, who released their latest album, ‘Out in the Moonlight,’ on October 13, 2023. Most recently, Ninja Sex Party released their album ‘These Nuts’ in 2024, and Avidan was announced as a voice actor for the upcoming animated series ‘Ruff Ruff Danger Dogs’ in 2024, further solidifying his diverse presence across music, comedy, and acting.
