Dan Cummins was born on May 17, 1977, in Riggins, Idaho. He pursued his education at Gonzaga University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. His early career involved a brief period as a child and family counselor before he transitioned into comedy. Cummins started performing stand-up in 2000, quickly establishing himself on the comedy circuit. In 2001, he placed as runner-up in the Seattle Comedy Competition, a pivotal moment that led to a collaboration with David Crowe forming the comedy duo COBDOG. Their sketch, “At The Coffee Shop,” was featured on The Bob & Tom Show’s best-of CD, “Bob And Tom Gone Wild.” These foundational experiences contributed to his developing style and stage presence.
Cummins gained further recognition in 2005 with a performance at the New Faces showcase during the Just For Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival, which caught the attention of Comedy Central and ‘The Late Late Show’. This led to his television debut on Comedy Central’s ‘Live at Gotham’ in 2006, followed by his network television debut on ‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ the same year. He recorded his first television stand-up special, “Comedy Central Presents Dan Cummins,” in 2007. His career continued to advance, leading to a one-hour Comedy Central special, “Crazy With A Capital F,” recorded at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane, Washington, in 2009. The accompanying CD, “Revenge is Near,” released via Warner Brothers Records, reached No. 7 on the Billboard Comedy Charts and was named among the top 10 comedy CDs of 2009 by Punchline Magazine.
Beyond stand-up, Cummins has expanded his work into writing and production for television. He has contributed as a writer or producer to various reality shows, including A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” Discovery’s “Porter Ridge,” and SyFy’s “Town of the Living Dead.” He also wrote for the sitcom “Raising Expectations.” Cummins demonstrated his versatility as a co-host for ‘The Playboy Morning Show’ for over 200 episodes. In recent years, he has built a significant presence in podcasting, launching “Timesuck” in 2016, a comedic history podcast, and “Scared to Death” with his wife, Lynze, in 2019, focusing on horror stories.
