Dan Orlovsky

Dan Orlovsky, born on August 18, 1983, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, established himself as a notable football talent from an early age. His high school career at Shelton High School saw him become a starting quarterback in his sophomore year, culminating in a 12-0 state championship season as a senior, where he threw for 2,385 yards and 24 touchdowns. Orlovsky’s collegiate journey at the University of Connecticut solidified his status as a key player. He is recognized as one of the UConn Huskies’ most decorated players, holding multiple school records for pass completions, attempts, passing yards, and touchdown passes. A significant highlight was leading the Huskies to their first-ever bowl appearance at the 2004 Motor City Bowl, where he earned MVP honors.

Following his successful college career, Orlovsky was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He spent 12 seasons in the NFL, primarily as a backup quarterback, with stints at the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A notable moment from his NFL playing career includes his first official win as a starter with the Indianapolis Colts in 2011, contributing to the team’s first victory of the season after an 0-13 start. In 2018, Orlovsky transitioned from playing to a career in sports analysis, joining ESPN as a college football and NFL analyst. He quickly became a consistent presence on various ESPN programs, including “NFL Live,” “Get Up,” “SportsCenter,” and “First Take.” His role expanded significantly, leading to a more consistent daily presence on “NFL Live” starting in June 2020. Orlovsky’s work at ESPN involves providing commentary and analysis on college and professional football, leveraging his playing experience to offer informed perspectives to a wide audience. He also calls a weekly ESPN/ABC college football game during the fall season.
