Dan Sugarman can only be described as a true musician and artist in mind, body and soul, using the power of music to transmute the negative and dark energy from everyday life into something beautiful with meaning. The progessive death metal artist’s music has been described as “bluntly honest” by Leon TK and “brash, original and truly progressive” by Screamer Magazine. Since his debut instrumental record Centersun, Dan has become a household name in the progressive death metal scene with his heavy instrumentals and the beautiful manner in which he manages to communicate through his guitar.
Following the release of his first record Dan joined the internationally touring metal band As Blood Runs Black as lead guitarist and songwriter. Unfortunately in 2016 the leading man had to leave the band in order to take care of his ailing mother, recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. These dark times kicked off the start of Dan’s solo career, as he focused on changing the darkness and negative energy in his everyday life into something beautiful and meaningful through music. His album Inside/Out- The Living Album was written during this period of darkness and truly reflects Dan’s journey through his grief and trauma.
The progressive artist released one song every month of the album for his Patreon members, something never done before, and truly delivering an interactive and enthralling effect to his audience. The song The Art of Knowing was dedicated to his beautiful mother just after her passing. The many funds generated by the album were donated to several charities including the National Brain Tumor Society, Childhood Domestic Violence, Smiletrain and ALS Research. In 2020 the entire album was released worldwide.
