Dane Dehaan

Dane William DeHaan was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1985 or 1986. His father worked as a computer programmer and his mother as an executive at MetLife. DeHaan developed an early interest in acting, participating in community theater during his time at Emmaus High School. He later transferred to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) for his senior year of high school and continued his studies there, graduating in 2008. His early career saw him serving as an understudy for Haley Joel Osment in the 2008 Broadway revival of ‘American Buffalo’ and making his television debut in an episode of ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ in the same year.

DeHaan’s film career began with a debut in John Sayles’ ‘Amigo’ in 2010. That same year, he gained recognition for his role as Jesse D’Amato in HBO’s ‘In Treatment,’ followed by a recurring role as Timbo in ‘True Blood’ in 2011. A turning point in his film career occurred in 2012 with his starring role as Andrew Detmer in the science fiction film ‘Chronicle,’ which brought him wider industry attention. He further solidified his presence in cinema with roles in ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ and ‘Lawless’ in the same year.

His career progression continued with critically acclaimed performances, including Lucien Carr in ‘Kill Your Darlings’ in 2013, for which he received a Gotham Award nomination and won “Breakthrough Performer” at the Hamptons International Film Festival. In 2014, he took on the significant role of Harry Osborn/Green Goblin in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ DeHaan has since worked with notable directors and appeared in diverse projects, including portraying James Dean in ‘Life’ (2015), starring in Luc Besson’s ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ (2017), and recently featuring as Kenneth Nichols in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ (2023). He has also featured in brand partnerships with companies such as Prada and Hugo Boss, demonstrating his reach beyond acting.
