Lord Daniel Finkelstein OBE is an accomplished and award-winning journalist. A venerable writer, he holds the senior position of Associate Editor and is a leading writer and political columnist for The Times. Finkelstein was recognised for his professional endeavours in 1997, when he was awarded an OBE and given the title of Baron Finkelstein. A prolific writer, he was again publicly recognised in 2011 after being named PSA Journalist of the Year.
Finkelstein demonstrated an active interest in politics by joining the National Committee of the Social Democratic Party in 1981 and went on to join the Conservative Party almost a decade later. Finkelstein acted as advisor to former Prime Minister John Major between 1995 and 1997, and advisor to William Hague between 1997 and 2001. As a member of the Conservative party, he was an advocate of the ‘modernisation’ of the party and presented his arguments in a series of speeches and publications.
It was in 2013 that Finkelstein was made life peer as Baron Finkelstein, owing to his professional success and services. Finkelstein is also a passionate football fan and writes a weekly football column which is widely respected, so much so that he was made journalist of the year by the Royal Statistical Society in 2013. Finkelstein continues to impress and draw upon his wealth of knowledge and journalistic abilities while remaining deeply involved in British politics.
