Gretchen Whitmer

Gretchen Whitmer is a lawyer and politician, serving as the 49th Governor of Michigan since 2019, focusing on infrastructure and healthcare legislation. After her election to the Michigan House of Representatives for the 70th district in 2000, Gretchen Whitmer went on to dedicate her multi-term tenure to advancing education and healthcare reform, earning recognition as the Most Effective Democrat of the Michigan House in 2005. Building on this legislative success, Whitmer won a special election to the Michigan State Senate in 2006. Prior to her legislative service, she honed her legal expertise, earning a Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law in 1998, and also served as Chair of the East Lansing Transportation Commission in 1999.

In 2023, her profound contributions to the state and public service were honored with her induction into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame. As the incumbent Governor, she continues to serve, focusing on infrastructure development, healthcare legislation, and fostering economic growth for Michigan residents.
