One of the most sought-after perfumers in the world, Daniela Andrier has composed over 133 fragrances. Her remarkable CV stretches on and on, with triumphs including Calvin Klein Contradiction (1997) with Antoine Lie, Gucci Envy for men, Bottega Veneta Knot, Guerlain Angélique Noire, Maison Martin Margiela, and many more. She has created scents for Kenzo, Armani, Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent, Bvlgari, and Etat libre d’Orange amongst countless others, and currently works as perfumer for Givaudan. She has also worked with Prada on many occasions, bringing the world Prada Candy, Prada Man, Purple Rain and other Prada ‘ingredient-focused’ scents that have become favourites of perfume-wearers and bloggers alike.
Born in the city of Heidelberg, Germany, Andrier studied philosophy at the Sorbonne. She was obsessed with smells as a child, smelling coffee beans and going to department stores to try fragrances. One night at a party she heard someone discussing the job of a perfumer, and realised it was the career for her. She approached YSL who told her to study chemistry, and whilst studying at the ISIPCA perfume school she met Chanel’s Jacques Polge who gave her an internship. The perfumer also introduced her to the fragrance house Robertet, and she later attended fragrance school at Roure.
Andrier’s perfumery is now about evolution, not revolution, and she believes that perfumes should invoke memories and even a sense of déjà vu by smelling somehow familiar yet distinct. Her philosophy has made her one of the world’s most sought-after perfumers in the world today, and her creations are worn by millions across the globe.
