Experienced and versatile American actor David Krumholtz is perhaps best known for playing Charlie Eppes in the crime drama series NUMB3RS, but he has also played many other characters during his 30 years in show business. He played Mr Universe in Joss Whedon’s movie Serenity and also appeared in the likes of 10 Things I Hate About You, Ray, and Superbad. He won awards for his acting in the films My Suicidal Sweetheart and Bobby. His most recent roles include playing Monty Levin in The Plot Against America, a role in Super Pumped, and an appearance in the biopic, Oppenheimer.
Krumholtz was born into a working-class Jewish family in Queens, New York, in 1978. Aged just 13, he got his first taste of acting success when he auditioned for the Broadway musical, Conversations with my Father, and was cast as Young Charlie. Soon afterwards, he got his first film roles, in Life with Mikey and Addams Family Values. The former saw him nominated for a Young Artist Award. In 1994, he played Bernard the Head Elf in the classic Christmas comedy film, The Santa Clause — a role he reprised in the sequel eight years later.
In 2005, Krumholtz began playing Charlie Eppes, one of the leading characters in NUMB3RS, a CBS crime drama that ran for six seasons and nearly 120 episodes. He also appeared in several episodes of HBO’s drama series, The Deuce, and their 2020 adaptation of Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America, about the rise of a politician who becomes President and steers the country towards fascism.
