Derrick Favors

Derrick Bernard Favors was born on July 15, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia. His basketball journey began at South Atlanta High School, where he achieved significant recognition, ranking as one of the best high school players in the class of 2009. He led South Atlanta to the Georgia Class AAA state championship in 2009, scoring 38 points and securing 21 rebounds in the championship game. Favors was named the MVP of the McDonald’s All-American Game in 2009 and also participated in the Jordan Brand Classic, where he earned MVP honors. He concluded his senior season averaging 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 assists per game, holding career records for points, rebounds, and blocked shots at his high school. His potential was further solidified during his college career at Georgia Tech, where he quickly became a key player.

After a successful collegiate year with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Derrick Favors declared for the 2010 NBA Draft, where he was selected third overall by the New Jersey Nets. He made his NBA debut at 19 years and 104 days old, becoming the youngest player to do so for the Nets. Early in his rookie season, Favors demonstrated his potential by achieving his first career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. His career saw a significant turning point when he was traded to the Utah Jazz in 2011. With the Jazz, Favors developed into a versatile power forward and center, consistently contributing on both ends of the court. He earned an NBA All-Rookie Second Team selection in 2011, highlighting his immediate impact in the league. Over his extensive career, he has played for multiple NBA teams, including the Utah Jazz (twice), New Orleans Pelicans, and Oklahoma City Thunder, bringing valuable experience and a strong interior presence to each squad.

Throughout his professional career, Favors achieved various milestones. He became the Utah Jazz’s 10th all-time leading scorer, surpassing Mehmet Okur. He also climbed to fourth place on the franchise’s all-time rebounding list, surpassing Greg Ostertag. Favors consistently demonstrated his rebounding ability and defensive impact, frequently ranking among league leaders in offensive rebounds and blocks. His resilience and dedication were evident in his long tenure in the NBA, culminating in a signing with the Chicago Bulls in 2023 and later joining the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League.
