Desmond King

Desmond King II was born on December 14, 1994, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended East English Village Preparatory Academy, where he excelled in football as a defensive back and running back. During his high school career, King set a Michigan high school record with 29 interceptions and also achieved a school record for career rushing yards, totaling 2,360 as a senior. Rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, he committed to the University of Iowa to play college football.

At the University of Iowa, King played under head coach Kirk Ferentz. He started in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2013, making him the first true freshman defensive back to start for Iowa since 2002. His performance continued to grow, culminating in a standout junior season in 2015 where he recorded 43 tackles and a Big-Ten high 8 interceptions. This impressive season earned him unanimous All-American honors and the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in college football. Despite projections as an early-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, King chose to return to Iowa for his senior year. He was named First-team All-Big Ten Conference for the second consecutive season and a 2016 Associated Press Second-team All-American.

King was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He quickly made an impact, earning All-Pro honors in 2018 as both a defensive back and a punt returner.
