Dey Young

Dey Young was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and pursued her passion for the arts early on. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Scripps College in Claremont, California, and further honed her acting skills at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Her career in entertainment began in 1979 with a role in “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School,” a character she later reprised in the 1994 film “Shake, Rattle and Rock!”. Young gained widespread recognition for her memorable performance as the ‘Snobby Saleswoman’ in the 1990 romantic comedy “Pretty Woman,” a role that remains a notable part of her filmography. She has appeared in over 100 movies and television shows, demonstrating her versatility across genres. Her film credits include “Spaceballs” (1987), “The Running Man” (1987), “The Serpent and the Rainbow” (1988), “Flicka” (2006), and recently “Amsterdam” (2022).

Beyond her film work, Dey Young has an extensive television career, with roles in popular series such as “Melrose Place” and various “Star Trek” installments, including “Star Trek: The Next Generation” as Hannah Bates, “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” as Arissa, and “Star Trek: Enterprise” as Keyla. She also made an appearance on “This Is Us” in 2022. Young is a lifetime member of The Actor’s Studio, reflecting her dedication to her craft.

In addition to her acting career, Young is a professional sculptor. She began sculpting in 1977 at Scripps College, studying under Aldo Casanova, and later expanded her skills in Italy by working with Carrara marble. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries across North America, including Santa Fe, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Carmel. In both 2006 and 2012, four of her pieces were selected as Los Angeles County Museum’s Special Projects for the Art and Architecture Tour. In 2011, her work was featured online in the National Sculpture Society’s “LOVE” exhibition, and her sculptures are held in prominent global collections and museums.
