Dichen Lachman was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, on February 22, 1982, to a Tibetan mother and an Australian father. She spent her early childhood in Kathmandu before moving to Adelaide, Australia, at the age of seven with her parents. After attending the University of Adelaide, Lachman developed an interest in acting. She relocated to Sydney to pursue her acting career, securing her first major role in the film “Aquamarine” (2006). This was followed by a 14-month stint on the long-running Australian series “Neighbours” (2005-2007), where she played Katya Kinski, a role specifically created for her after her audition for another character.
Lachman transitioned to American television, gaining recognition for her role as Sierra in Joss Whedon’s science fiction series “Dollhouse” (2009-2010), appearing in two seasons. Her career continued to progress with significant roles in various television series, including “Being Human” (2012), “Last Resort” (2012-2013), and recurring roles in “The 100” (2014) as Anya and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (2014-2015, 2020) as Jiaying. She also took on the role of Reileen Kawahara in Netflix’s “Altered Carbon” (2018-2020) and Frankie in “Animal Kingdom” (2018-2021).
In recent years, Lachman has garnered critical acclaim for her performance as Ms. Casey in the Apple TV+ series “Severance” (2022–present). Her notable film credits include vocal work as General Atitaya and Spine Warrior in “Raya and the Last Dragon” (2021) and the live-action role of Soyona Santos in “Jurassic World Dominion” (2022). She also appeared as Korina in “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (2024). Beyond acting, Lachman co-produced the film “Lust for Love” (2014) and served as a producer on the television miniseries “Hollywood Hitmen” (2015). She has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for her work on “Severance” (2022).
