Donny Osmond

Donald Clark Osmond was born on December 9, 1957, in Ogden, Utah. He began his career at a young age, performing with his older brothers in the group The Osmonds. The group gained national recognition as regulars on “The Andy Williams Show” starting in the early 1960s. Donny made his debut on the show at age six in 1963, singing “You Are My Sunshine.” He later launched a successful solo career in the early 1970s, achieving teen idol status with hit singles like “Sweet and Innocent” (1971, U.S. no. 7), “Go Away Little Girl” (1971, U.S. no. 1), and “Puppy Love” (U.S. no. 3). His popularity was further cemented by appearances on television programs such as “Here’s Lucy” in 1972.

Throughout the 1970s, Donny continued to work alongside his sister Marie. They co-hosted “The Donny & Marie Show,” a variety series that aired on ABC from 1976 to 1979, becoming a significant part of American pop culture. Following this, he faced a career downturn but successfully re-established himself in popular music in the late 1980s with the Billboard Hot 100 no. 2 hit “Soldier of Love” (1989). The 1990s saw him star as Joseph in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for over 2,000 performances, a role he reprised in the 1999 film version. He also lent his voice to Disney’s “Mulan,” singing “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.”

Osmond’s later career has included extensive work in television and live performances. He hosted the game show “Pyramid” from 2002 to 2004 and won season 9 of “Dancing with the Stars” in 2009. From 2008 to 2019, Donny and Marie had an 11-year Las Vegas residency at the Flamingo Las Vegas, performing 1,730 shows. He was also the runner-up in season 1 of “The Masked Singer” in 2019. In 2024, he is set to play the role of Pharaoh in a new production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in Edinburgh.
